Turrón is a Spanish dessert - a candy. We know it from other contexts, as it is basically a nougat, containing sugar, honey, almonds and egg white. It is said that Turrón dates back many centuries to the 15th century, and was created by the Arab people. Over time, several different combinations and flavors have been developed. Often it was eaten on special occasions and especially at Christmas, but today it can be bought and eaten all year round. Turrón is said to have been created by Arab people sometime during the 15th century. Turrón became popular with the Romans, and has remained a familiar experience ever since. It was a desired dessert of King Felipe II of Spain, and there was even a book "Conduchos of Christmas," written by Felipe's chef Francisco Martinez Montino, that described Turrón in detail. Turrón was often served for special occasions and when guests want to visit, and this has been true over the years. Casa Jada sells this delicious little single portion in a "duro" (hard) version.
